Beginners are welcome to join our classes and initially train in loose casual sports clothes until they have decided to take up karate seriously.

Novices need to purchase a school karate uniform 'Gi' with the Seiki-Juku kanji motif.

Before lower grades can begin light sparring they will need hand mitts and leg pads to protect their sparring partners. A gum shield is strongly recommended even at the early stages of sparring.

Higher grades need personal protection for sparring. Ladies are recommended to wear chest guards and men groin protectors.

Higher grade examinations and competitions involve semi-contact fighting. As well as all the above protection, participants must wear a school-sanctioned head guard. These head guards have protection at the rear in case of a fall to the floor.

To achieve Dan grade (black belt) students are trained in the use of the 'Bo' or staff.

To give them a rounded knowledge of Budo, advanced Seiki-juku students also practice with ancient Japanese weapons such as 'Bokken' wooden swords and 'Sai' tridents.
